Tasked to Hear

A publication and audio download that reflects a year-long study of an area approximately the size of one-metre square. Deliberately constraining the site as much as possible, I returned at the same time on the last Saturday of every month and documented the audible and inaudible artefacts of each visit. Sounds as well as body temperature, decibel readings and written notations were compiled. Photographs documenting the earth-impact of listening as well as the sky above were gathered. The work plays with the constant tension between site-specificity and sound’s transboundary agency, highlighting the plural potential of what constitutes data. Published by Corbel Stone Press.
